A Skegness swimming club took another major step forward as it entered its first competitive open meet since its rebirth in 2008.

For the first time, the name of Skegness was present on a swimming competition list of participants.

Alexander Vickers, 14, gained qualifying times in three open meet events at a recent in-house Points score gala. Alexander represented the club and town in his first races. He gained two personal bests in 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke and is now on the verge of County Qualifying times.

“I felt a bit nervous when I arrived because there were loads of big teams from all over Lincolnshire and I was in a team of one. I felt a lot better once I got into the water and completed my first race,” said Alexander.

Head Coach, Charles Rogers, was delighted with Alexander’s performance and sees potential. He said: “Alexander’s first races showed that he was fully committed.”

Skegness Amateur Swimming Club meets on Mondays and Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm, and on Fridays from 6pm to 8pm. We have swimmers of all ages. First session for newcomers is free.
