Midlands 5 East (North)
Skegness RFC 18
Skegness Rugby Club’s First XV recorded an 18-0 victory at home to Nottinghamians in the Midlands 5 East (North).
On a special day - where the club remembered the first brick of the old clubhouse being laid 30 years ago, as well as celebrating a sponsors day with Wolfies Wine Bar and Piper Windows - the action unfolded in poor weather conditions, but with both teams up for the challenge.
The hosts took the lead when Nottinghamians gave away a penalty on their 22 metre line, Jamie Cameron kicking between the posts.
Skegness’ forwards pack of Brian, Lucas, Gill, Matthews,Lempard, Cook,Parvin and Santini looked in complete control of every scrum at this point, gaining good yards and man handling the Nottinghamians scrum.
The score moved to 6-0 after Skegness were given another penalty, Cameron doubling the tally before half time.
With the wind against them and the weather getting worse, Skegness still managed to play some of the best rugby they have produced all season, with the backs moving the ball from one side of the pitch to the other.
This pressure caused Nottinghamians to knock the ball on in their own 22, a great push from the blue and white pack leading to a try as Divilly touched down ahead of Santini.
Nottinghamians pushed on, only for a fantastic try saving tackle from Mawer.
Skegness were then gifted a try after the away side passed the ball straight to Cameron on the half way line, with only the posts in front of him.
After touching down he kicked the conversion.
