With a 14-4 points win, 123 shots to 85, Skegness Men’s County League Division Two Squad moved into second place behind league leaders Boston.

Playing at Wainfleet Road, Sleaford provided the opposition winning on just two rinks with scores of 26-19 and 16-13.

Skegness responded by winning three rinks by big scores. Top men were Peter Hopkins, Carl York, Mac Holland and Brian Hawes 30-12, Derek Tasker, Pete Rusher, Bob Arnold and Bryn Foxon 30-14 and John Mountain, Dave Warren, Ken Startin and Dave Conroy 31-17.

Included in the Skegness team were Carl York and Jacob Joyce, who both attended the club coaching sessions as Juniors and have reached a good standard of bowling to earn a place in the Senior Squad.

The important aggregate points once again eluded Skegness in their County Mixed League Match against Boston.

Having led by 20 points after 15 ends Skegness ran out of steam as Boston regained the lead.

Although winning two rinks and drawing another put the teams level the valuable eight aggregate points went to Boston for a 13-5 win, 99 shots to 88.

For Skegness, Mary Banks, Brenda Rice, Dave Warren and Ken Startin led the scoring with a 30-15 card.

Margaret Humphries, Mac McAlindon, Brenda Manning and Roy Witherington regained composure to win 19-15. Jackie McAlindon, Jacob Joyce, Val Huggins and John Clarke drew 15-15.

Skegness Men’s Over 60 “B” team match at home with Grantham ended with the scores level at 92 shots all.

David Briggs, Gordon Farr, Jack Bray and John Clarke won their game 33-12, which was a major contribution. There was also a narrow 22-20 victory from Roy Sylvester, Graham Farndon, Pete Reeson and Peter Hawkyard.

Grantham won on the remaining three rinks for a 10-8 points win, which confirmed Skegness “B” in the bottom league position.
