A journey to Lincoln Indoor Bowls club by the Skegness ‘A’ Men’s Over 60s squad produced four points for the club.
Wins came by the rinks of Dave Conroy, Ken Startin, John Thorold and George Curley (25-16) together with John Canham, Brian Kilby, Dennis Garratt and Albert Shepherd (27-25). The match result was Lincoln ‘A’ 120 shots and 14 points, Skegness ‘A’ 101 shots and four points.
Suffering heavy losses on three of the five rinks played in a Lincolnshire Men’s Over 60s Division Two match away at Grantham, a 14-4 points 116-73 shot losing result placed Skegness ‘B’ firmly at the bottom of the league.
With one player short, team Captain John Clarke with David Briggs and Gordon Farr achieved a 24-15 win, which was supported by Ray Houlgrave, Graham Farndon, Jack Bray and Bill Bateman, who won 18-15.
It was a similar story when Skegness Ladies entertained Louth Ladies at Wainfleet Road.
Trailing from the start, Skegness raised their game to take the lead by 10 shots after 10 ends played. However this improvement did not last as Louth showed more resolve to regain the lead and a fine 117-78 shot 14 points to two win.
The home team’s only winning rink was Muriel Coulson, Lynne Rigby, Mary Reding and Ladums 25-15.
Finishing a disappointing week, Skegness met Scunthorpe in the National Over 60s Double Rink competition at home.
Brian Hawes, Dave Conroy, George Curley and John Thorold lost 16-17, and away at Scunthorpe, Ken Startin, Brynn Foxon, Mick York and Neil Salmon were defeated 13-21. The total score was Scunthorpe 38 Skegness 29.
