Triumphant Skegness students beat teams from across Lincolnshire to lift an under 16s hockey title.

The Skegness Grammar School side travelled to the artificial turf at Louth’s London Road leisure facilities for the Coastal and Wolds Hockey Tournament.

Others participating including Monks Dyke Technology College, Tennyson, De Aston and Cordeaux schools.

The team got off to a cracking start against Monks Dyke with awesome goals from Ollie Roylance and two by captain Taylor Gary.

Ayo Adenaike in goal did not have to touch the ball as Skegness dominated, the final score being 3-0.

They were also dominant in winning their second and third matches.

They beat Monks Dyke again in the semi-finals to earn a place in the final against Cordeaux B.

Their opponents started well but could not keep up with the pace of the Skegness Grammar School.

It was a good duel but two goals by Taylor, one hitting the top right hand corner of the goal, sealed the game and the championship.

Taylor, who plays for Horncastle men’s team and also represents the county, was the player of the tournament.

Skegness’ determination was epitomised by Luke Rowson who, after having a heavy fall in the first game, came back to be a dominant force on the wing.

Oliver Roylance had a cracking tournament playing on the left with some excellent one two passes creating space and width that the opponents could not match.
