The Skegness second team entertained Market Rasen at Wainfleet Road playing fields on Saturday in a thrilling match despite difficult conditions at times.
After early pressure from Skegness, with strong direct running from Bignell, Hill and Lempard, the signs were encouraging. However it was Rasen that went over the line first to make it 0-5.
The blue and whites battled back admirably with the experienced front row of Turner, Farnsworth and Linnell taking control and moving Skegness forward towards the try-line.
After hard work from the industrious Spiers and Bignell, the outstanding Hardy levelled the scores with a well-deserved try.
However the spirited Rasen team continued to battle hard and regained the lead with a well-worked try.
Awful weather conditions did not deter Skegness and the outstanding Machin and Hotchen, supported by the skill of newcomer Counter, provided the platform for Skegness to level the scores.
Quality pack play by Brown and Stennett led to the opportunity for Brown to go over the line. The strong running Phelpps, supported by Hardy and Spiers, closed the half.
The second half saw Skegness camped in their own half for long periods facing a tough Rasen side. However they did not yield until towards the end of the game - leaking in two tries to sadly concede the fixture.
“The Blue and Whites continue to grow in strength and the spirit and application of all was admirable, earning a big thank you from skipper and vice captain Hill and Spiers,” said a spokesperson.
“Any newcomers who would like to start playing for Skegness are more than welcome with training taking place on Monday (7pm) and Wednesday (7.30pm) evenings at Wainfleet Road Playing Fields,” they added.
