Park life suits David

Members of Skegness Tri Club were in action at Clumber Park this weekend.

The picturesque park in Nottinghamshire hosted a sprint and standard distance duathlon, and the event also offered GB age group qualification places for events next year.

The seven members from Skeg Tri tackled the sprint distance event.

This started with a 5km run, then a 20km bike leg and followed by the last run covering 2.5km.

David Johnson achieved a personal best time at this event by 15 minutes, while Alan Wheeler was second in his age category and John Caborn won the veteran age category, while training paid off for many members

Provisional results: Alan Wheeler 1:02.54, Peter Nicholls 1:11.05, Mitchell Clark 1:13.34, Matt Wain 1:14.41, Michael Irving 1:16.42, David Johnson 1:17.47, John Caborn 1:18.10.

Competing at the Hull 20 event was Skeg Tri member Chris Reader. This event is a 20-mile run and has a maximum of 700 competitors.

The course is flat and fast, using rural roads and part of the railway line located in the Holderness area.

The latter half of the race was tough going in head wind, but Chris’ provisional finish time was a fantastic 2:17.49.

Chris has continued his tough training regime despite injury through the winter, and this result is a great start to his racing season.
