Liberal Lads once again show their dominance

Last week’s big winners in Division Two, Liberal Lads, showed why they are favourites this year as they travelled to the Cricket Club and came away with an 8-4 win.

Losing the first two singles it looked like an upset could be on the cards, but Liberal Lads, showed their mettle, winning the last four singles and two of the pairs, with C Fisher, 125, 2 x 140, T Cox 121, 140, 180 and man of the match, captain E Hammond 121, 122, 125, 135, 139, 100 finish and a 17 dart leg for good measure.

Top scorers for Cricket Club were A Ainsworth 134, 138, P Lucas 2 x 125, 140 and M Foreman 139, 140.

WMC Aces took on Ex-Service C. After sharing the singles 3-3 it looked like it was going to be close but the Aces took all of the pairs to run out 9-3 winners, with T Goodwin checking out on 118. Ex-Service’s S Wyman hit 174.

Liberal Us fought back from 4-2 after the singles to force a draw - ending six-all.

Royal Oak also ended all square with the Welcome Anchors, and Welcome Hillbillies were looking comfortable against The Vine, racing into a 6-2 lead, only for Vine to pull it back and force another draw.

J Spence 4 x 140, M Hartley 137, 140 and D Pendrigh 2 x 140 were the top scorers for Vine.

In Division One league leaders Ex-Service 501s travelled to the Liberal Adams Family and the Adams Family put up a great fight, sharing the singles 3-3. They then took one each of the first two pairs to set up an all or nothing shoot-out and it was 501s’ league stalwarts of I Dunn and P Hough who held their nerve to record the win, 7-5.

501s’ L Dore 120, 2 x 140 and a couple of ton plus finishes 103 and 107 top scored, while P Sandford 2 x 140 responded for Adams Family, Barkham Arms took on the Outsiders in an all-Wainfleet clash with the Outsiders running out 10-2 winners. The score did not reflect this game. D Tuplin 140, 2 x 180 and a 17 dart leg. C Lees 135, 140 and an 18 darter, top scored for Wutsiders while Barkham’s best was C Simpson 2 x 140, 180, G Millington 2 x 140 and S Kirkam with 121, and 3 x 140.

Cobras and Sports met in an all Ex-Service clash and the Cobras took the advantage, racing into a 5-1 singles lead and had to wait until the second pairs to wrap it up and ran out 7-5 winners. B Martin 2 x 140, G Muir 180 scored on the board for Sports while T Smith 121, 125, 135, 140 was top marksman for Cobras,

The final game in this division saw last year’s Division Two champions WMC Steelers take on last year’s Division One champions, Seaviwew Raiders.

The Steelers ran out 9-3 winners with some heavy scoring from S Wilson 125, 139, 140, 174, and 180. M Thomson 2 x 140, C Abbiss 2 x 140, C Abbis and S Wilson both stuck in a 16 darter each.
