Lincoln Roses 2nd XI 1

Alford Ladies 1st XI 8

AN undefeated Alford side travelled to Lincoln University for this lunch time fixture, unsure of what to expect from this Roses side who’d had some recent good results.

Alford welcomed back from university Chloe Bolland who instantly raised Alford’s game, and they dominated the play, with the passing throughout the field sublime.

The way Alford were playing, it was a question of who would score first rather than if, and that question was answered by Jess Wood, when she was able to sweep the ball past the keeper from five yards out.

Alford piled the pressure on the Roses defence who struggled to cope with the continued onslaught and with shots and flicks raining on them from all directions, and inevitably they gave away numerous short corners, which sure fire shot captain Kelly Tuplin was able to convert for Alford’s second and third goals.

Shortly before half time, Alford’s Kelly Tuplin and Chloe Bolland weaved a path through which led straight to the Roses goal, where Kelly pushed the ball past the Roses helpless keeper, to take Alford in at half time as deserved 4-0 leaders.

In the second half, with captain Kelly watching from the sidelines, young Vicky Allen and Chloe joined forces to make an instant impression on the game, with Chloe’s cross finding Vicky who slipped the ball in the net for Alford’s fifth.

Within minutes, Luan Burton increased the score to six when her strong strike from the top of the D hit the back board.

Still determined to try and get a foothold in the game, Roses pushed forward into the Alford half, with most of their players appearing to be positioned on the right side of Alford’s pitch.

This made it difficult for Alford to mark and keep their shape, however between Alford’s Tracy Le’Gate, Nikii Hind and Becky Murray, the extra players were kept well away from the danger area.

Due to Roses’ playing style, this left Alford’s left-side players free to run and find space to attack the Lincoln goal, and with the extra space Alford’s Vicky Allen was able to release her shot straight past the stranded keeper.

Undeterred, Roses still looked for a consolation goal and were duly awarded a short corner. Whilst the resulting shot into the goal was high, both umpires awarded the goal, much to the bemusement of the Alford defenders.

Having returned to the pitch, Tuplin had the final say when she expertly dispatched a short corner to finish the game for Alford, as 8-1 victors.

Whilst Roses played well, they met a supreme Alford side who raised their game with some exceptional passing performances and tore through the opposition relentlessly.

Man of the match went to Chloe Bolland for her superb passing and linking play.
