This week’s darts attention turned to the league mixed doubles at Skegness Working Men’s Club (WMC).
With over 200 members registered to the league, a high turnout was expected, however only seven players made the effort to find a partner for this event, a very poor turnout. Although the players that did make the effort, enjoyed the night, and there was some good darts thrown as well.
The first game saw favourites Carl Abbiss and Natalie Weston take on Ken Wilson and Elaine Wilkinson and it was Carl and Nat that just had the edge.
Second up was Chris Fletcher and Cathy Bailey against Kristien Thein and Carla Smith, and some good finishing from Carla gave them the result.
With Stuart and Linda Llewellyn getting the bye, the final game in this round saw Barry Grenfell and Dot Howlett take on and beat Carl and Shaz Parnham.
The first of the semi finals saw Carl and Nat beat Kristien and Carla 2-0 and then the Llewellyns took on Barry and Dot and a close game followed that both pairs could have won, but it was Barry and Dot that just held on for a two one win.
Carl and Nat then took on Barry and Dot and after some high scoring, including a 180 from Carl, it was he, along with partner Nat that got the win, 2-0.
The trebles is to follow at the Ex Service and the league are hoping for a better turnout.
The new summer league has its joining meeting this Friday, May 9 at 7.30pm at Skegness WMC.
This is the last chance for any team to enter, at present, 12 teams have entered into the league and the numbers will probably split this into two leagues.
Presentation this year at Skegness WMC will see Ronnie Baxter do the honours, presenting the trophies and taking on 20 league players.
Some of these spots are to be decided on the night with all league players getting the chance to play him, with five names being drawn out on the night. So, don’t forget to bring your darts.
John Fowler will again be MC for the evening.
