Woodhall Ladies 1

Alford Ladies 1st XI 7

WITH Woodhall’s resident keeper back between the sticks after a recent stint out due to injury, Alford knew that they would have to put on a fine display to beat her.

From the first whistle, Luan Burton and Kelly Tuplin strode through the opposition half only for Luan to shoot just wide.

Minutes later, Luan rectified this miss when she slipped the ball round the home team keeper to get Alford first on the score sheet.

Alford’s second came from a clever worked pass from Tracy Le Gate and Nikii Hind, who took the ball into the opposition D and fired a shot across goal. Jess Wood was waiting on the post and steered it into the net.

Alford went 3-0 up when Luan scored her second, after some fine passing between her and Kelly Tuplin.

With the majority of the attacking play coming from Alford, any breakaway Woodhall attack was nullified by a strong Alford defence, but Woodhall earned themselves a short corner and, looking for a way back in the game, their centre forward struck the ball with force.

Although the initial shot was brilliantly saved by the Alford keeper, Carole Jacklin, the rebound was tucked away before the defence could react.

Alford, having been unable to capitalise on the numerous short corners, turned to their goalscoring goddess Kelly Tuplin, who had now found her eye for goal, and dispatched three goals from short corners in quick succession to take the visitors in at half time 6-1 up.

Alford continued their relentless attacks in the second half, but the Woodhall defence remained strong and their keeper continued to pull off save after save.

Alford’s Rachel Hickson continued to weave her way through the field, ably backed up on the right by Tracy Le Gate and Nikii Hind, and on finding centre forward Kelly Tuplin, she tucked the ball past the keeper for Alford’s seventh goal.

Alford: Carole Jacklin, Helen Gray, Nikii Hind, Holly Boulton, Kenzie Gray, Tracy Le Gate, Kelly Tuplin, Shirley Gibney, Rachel Hickson, Luan Burton and Jess Wood.
