The Bushido Junior National Judo competition was held recently at High Wycombe Judo centre.
In the most prestigous competition for Bushido throughout the year, Skegness and Seathorne judo clubs had two entrants.
Competing were Ethan Steele, boys’ under 30kg, and Rhiannon Manson, girls’ under 30kg, although she also entered the under 35kg as well.
Ethan started in spectacular fashion with two contests over in less than 30 seconds each, as he threw one contestant for ippon and held the other also for ippon.
As the competition continued the fights got progressively more difficult with Ethan eventually reaching the final, without loss, only to face the same opponent he lost to in last years final.
This year, in another closely fought contest, Ethan was victorious and took the gold medal.
Rhiannon, in only her second ever competition, started understandably nervously in the U30kg class, but won her first contest by holding her opponent down for ippon. After that she relaxed and continued to the final where she was also triumphant, taking the gold medal.
Rhiannon was also entered into the under 35kg class, where she fought admirably and eventually ended up in third place, taking the bronze medal in this category.
