A Chay Wood strike was the difference between Alford Men’s 2nds and Grantham when the two teams met at the Trent Road pitch in Alford at the weekend.
The match, sponsored by The Centrepiece Spilsby, was dominated by Alford in the first half proceedings, but they missed several chances to take the lead until a Scott Masterman shot took a deflection and went through the keeper’s legs to earn a deserved lead after 15 minutes.
Alford lost the ball in their half allowing Grantham to attack and score a good equaliser on the half-hour mark. This was their first and last attack of a half which Alford totally dominated.
The second half was a slightly different story as Grantham got a hold on the game and Alford struggled to get into the slick passing groove which had set the trend in the first-half.
Daniel Coe worked hard, getting stuck in at every opportunity and the defensive line proved too strong for any Grantham attack.
Man-of-the-match Chay struck on the 55th minute with an excellent strike from the edge of the D, which proved to be the decisive goal in a hard fought game. The club wishes to thank the umpires once again.
