Alford Men’s 2nd team, sponsored by The Centrepiece, Spilsby, entertained City of Peterborough 9th for their second game of the season.

Alford started well with good passing and movement creating a number of chances.

Against the run of play Peterborough forced a penalty corner. Arron Webb made a good initial save but the ball found the back of the goal with some wicked backspin.

This spured Alford to press forward which left gaps at the back but Rob Thornally, John Fleming and Daniel Brown defended brilliantly to cease Peterborough’s counter attacks.

Being one-nil down at the break gave Alford the required urgency to work hard and get back into the game, this effort was rewarded when Chase Maddison scored.

The second half was played at a great tempo and one further goal for each team meant the points had to be shared - Scott Masterman converting from a John Fleming lay off from a short corner.

The final score was 2-2, which was a fair result, although late chances were not taken by Alford to sneak a win.

The club would like thank umpires Barbara and Harriet Hanwell who were outstanding. The deserved Man of the Match was Del Oswald.

The team was: Scott Masterman (Captain), John Fleming, Arron Webb, Daniel Brown, Gioiachino Lippolis, Del Oswald, Daniel Coe, Chay Wood, Mole Allenson, Adam Sutton, Rob Thornally, Paul Nicks, Chase Maddison, Jack White, Ross Epton.
