Good catches continued in the Skegness Pier Angling Club (SPAC) annual Species Hunt, fished in ideal conditions at Trunch Lane
Croxton’s Dave Burr was in sparkling form, catching six dabs, three flounders, a dogfish and a small smoothound to run out easy winner with 47 points.
He also took the heaviest flatfish award with his best flounder which tipped the scales at 1lb 4oz.
Top Grimsby angler Garry Hutson caught a specimen 66cm dogfish in his seven fish mixed bag of three different species to take second place with 34 points. Corby’s Paul Marshall tried his hardest to catch the elusive third species, but in the end had to settle for third place with 23 points for his bag of dabs and flounders.
Dogfish don’t count for the heaviest round fish award, so Grimsby ace Karl Nangle was the grateful recipient, with a 14oz bass.
The next SPAC match will be held on Sunday from 11am till 3pm at Jackson’s Corner, with Club members fishing for the Frank Parkins Shield.
There is also an open section, which non-members are welcome to participate in.
