SKEGNESS windsurfing star Robert York has been named one of the county’s elite athletes for the third year running.

York, 15, was welcomed onto the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme (LEAP) last week at The Showroom in Lincoln.

Sixty-one athletes were awarded levels according to their achievements over the last 12 months and for their potential for the year ahead.

Robert was awarded Level 3 by three-time Olympian and canoeist Laurence Oliver.

Robert said: “I am proud to be part of LEAP as it shows that Lincolnshire is supporting me in my goals.”

Managed by Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, LEAP provides funding and support for talented athletes in the county who are hoping to compete at an Olympic or Paralympic Games.

Rachel Belcher, LEAP Project Officer at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, said: “We’ve seen how Robert has progressed this year, and look forward to seeing what he will achieve throughout the next 12 months.”

Funding for LEAP has been secured through Lincolnshire County Council, University of Lincoln, SportsAid, Adam Gibbon’s Sport Foundation Fund, Mundy’s, Soper of Lincoln and Lincolnshire Sports Partnership’s Corporate Club.
