Champs Monkeys are mauled by the Lion in darts league

Sid Dennis and Sons Ltd Division One champions Arctic Shrew Monkeys were mauled by the relegation-threatened Red Lion in the Skegness William Hill Darts League.

The champs were under-strength, but in a superb game the underdogs ran out 9-3 winners, dishing out the Monkeys’ first defeat of the season.

The Lions’ Colin Pringle (121, 128, 2x140, 92 finish and a 21-dart leg), Adam Lyall (125, 140 104 finish), Chris Simpson 120, 2x140, 120 finish), Mark Green (2x125, 140), Tony Holland (121, 123, 125, 2x140, and a 20-dart leg) all threw well in a high-scoring contest.

The Monkeys had Colin Lees (121, 137, 3x140), Martin Bell (123, 125, 138, 180, and legs in 15 and 17 darts) and Rick Garner (140, 180) doing well.

Welcome Anchors beat Ex Service 501s 7-5 despite Gary Garton (2x140, 180) and Ken Wilson (140, 180 and a 14-dart leg) being in form for the 501s.

The Anchors had Andy Hardy (2x140), Mark Oke (2x140) and Wayne Burles (121, 140, 141) on the score sheet.

Ex Service Sports were 4-2 up against Liberal Lads, but let things go in the doubles as the Liberal fought back to force a draw.

Mark Gray (3x125, 135, 3x140) and Pete Evans (2x140) were the high scorers in this one.

Seaview Oak had a last-gasp 7-5 win over Ex Service Cobras.

Tony Parkin (128, 2x140 and a 15-darter) was the high point for the home side, while Stuart Corsen (180), Roy Parnham (121, 2x133) and Derek Johnson (123, 133) top scored for the Cobras.

In the Sid Dennis and Sons Ltd Division Two, leaders Finnegans met highflying Cricket Club in a very close game.

With the contest poised at 5-5, Finnegans’ last pairing of Bill Proom and Bob Millar held their nerve to secure the win.

Richard Fuller (121, 131) did well for Cricket Club.

WMC Aces beat The Vine 7-5 as T. Clingham threw 180 and 131 for the losing side.

The Aces’ Gareth Jowett (123, 125, 140) and Mick Jones (2x140) ended on tjhe winning side.

Seaview Raiders knew they would keep the pressure on the top two if they were to beat Liberal Us, and they won 8-4.

Barry Taylor (2x140) threw well.

Ex Service C won 10-2 against Welcome Hillbillies.

Welcome’s A. Bell (121, 123) was in good form.

Darts star ‘Kong’ Robbie Green will be appearing at Skegness’ Lumley Bar-Restaurant on April 23.
