FORMER Queen Elizabeth Grammar School pupil Rebecca Howe, from Alford, won a section of novice eventing at the Lincolnshire Horse Trials, held at Lincolnshire Showground.

She topped the section which included several top riders who have competed at Olympic level and secured the silver trophy for the highest placed local rider.

Her horse, the Surfing Smurf, has been produced entirely by Rebecca from a just broken four-year-old, and they are now aiming for the seven-year-old championships at Osberton International Horse Trials in Nottinghamshire at the end of the season.

It was an especially pleasing day for the pair, as they secured a sponsorship deal from the leisure and riding clothing brand Blaze Clothing, who were at the event.
