FIFTY people who supported the Egyptian Paralympic Team’s Pre-Games Training Camp in Lincolnshire will be recognised at a celebration event next week.
The news comes as Epypt’s Paralympic leader said that the county had contributed to his team’s sporting success at the games.
The training camp, which took place from August 18 to 24, saw 56 athletes, coaches and support staff from the Egyptian Paralympic Team use facilities in Boston, Lincoln and Louth prior to the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
The group also stopped off in Skegness on a trip to Fantasy Island.
Fifty Arabic translators, physiotherapists and support volunteers from across the county volunteered their time throughout the week to support the Egyptian team during their stay.
They will be thanked at a celebration event at The National Golf Centre in Woodhall Spa on Thursday, September 27.
Councillor Doreen Stephenson, Lincolnshire Champion for the London 2012 Games, said: “Without the volunteers who supported the Egyptian Paralympic Team, the training camp would not have been as successful as it was. The volunteers were friendly, enthusiastic and always willing to help – they were a credit to Lincolnshire and we want to officially thank them for their efforts at the celebration event next week.”
The Egyptian Paralympic Team have already praised the volunteers for their efforts throughout their training camp.
Dr Mohsen Elmahdy Said, Chef de Mission for the Egyptian Paralympic Team, said: “Above all, the warmth and support we have received from the volunteers, the Egyptian community and the Lincolnshire community was heartfelt and deeply appreciated.
“With every medal our Egyptian athletes gained, there is a recognition that Lincolnshire has contributed in the making and achievement of these medals.”
During the London 2012 Paralympic Games, the Egyptian Paralympic Team won 15 medals.
The team claimed four gold medals, three silver medals and four bronze medals in powerlifting, one silver medal and two bronze medals in athletics and one bronze medal in table tennis.
