County Cup finalists Gainsborough Town lost more ground on the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League leaders when they were thumped by Boston United Reserves at the Jakeman’s Stadium.

A first half hat-trick from Tom James put the Pilgrims well on the way to securing a league and cup double over Town.

Cleethorpes Town Reserves brushed aside the challenge of Hykeham Town to consolidate their second spot, while two penalties from Ollie Johnson helped Horncastle to a comfortable win over Market Rasen Town.

Sleaford Town Reserves have just four league games left after a tidy home win over CGB Humbertherm, while a late equaliser from Paul Goodhand rescued a point for Louth Town Reserves in their 29th league game.

Boston Town Reserves and Heckington United, were unable to raise teams for trips to Skegness Town and Grimsby Borough Reserves respectively.

And the waterlogged pitch at Lincoln United Reserves’ Ashby Avenue ground left Skegness United kicking their heels yet again.

Boston United Reserves 4 Gainsborough Town 1 - Gainsborough travelled to Boston with a 5-1 league win against the Pilgrims already under their belts.

But honours were even as United had knocked Town out of the Challenge Cup on penalties.

Thomas James was not interested in recent results as he helped himself to a hat-trick before the interval.

Joseph Briers scored United’s other goal, while at the other end recent signing Carl Snowden made it three goals in three games for the visitors.

Horncastle Town 4 Market Rasen Town 0 - It was a scrappy game, littered with yellow cards, but Horncastle followed up their 5-0 win over Nettleham with another convincing result and clean sheet.

Ollie Johnson’s penalty divided the sides at half time, but soon after the interval his second spot kick doubled the advantage.

The home side added a third after Rasen keeper Dale Christie misjudged a free kick from the right. It came back from the far post, presenting Steve Brown with the simplest of tap-ins.

Sixteen-year-old Sam Johnson wrapped things up for the Wongers with a late goal on his debut.

Cleethorpes Town Reserves 4 Hykeham Town 2 - Two goals apiece for Callum Day and Brody Robertson sealed three points and a league double over Hykeham for second placed Cleethorpes.

Hykeham’s scorers were Robin Newman and Michael Ellis.

Louth Town Reserves 1 Ruston Sports 1 - Ruston Sports were leading 1-0 at Park Avenue when Town were awarded a late penalty.

Although the spot kick was saved, the rebound was fired home by Paul Goodhand to rescue a point for the White Wolves.

Tom Melton had given Sports the lead with his fourth goal of the current campaign.

Sleaford Town Reserves 3 CGB Humbertherm 1 - Nathan Holland grabbed his tenth of the season to help Sleaford to three points against CGB Humbertherm.

Charlie Rossington and Paul Reece were also on target for the home side, while the Therm’s consolation was also scored by a Sleaford player.
