Leaders fall short as they suffer second defeat of season

South Lincs and Border league division two

Cavaliers 198 for 7

Skegness 2nds 184 all out

LEAGUE leaders Skegness seconds slipped to their second defeat of the season when they fell 14 runs short in an exciting run chase at Richmond Drive.

The seasiders won the toss and put Cavaliers in to bat, but despite taking an early wicket, they struggled to dislodge Dave Robinson (83) and Alex Glover (53), who produced what proved to be a match-winning second wicket partnership.

Jason Elsom and Samuel Richardson both took three wickets as the visitors amassed 198 for seven.

After the early departure of skipper Alistair Ainsworth, Richie Hewitt led the response with a half century, but his partners lost their wickets at regular intervals after playing themselves in.

David Jacobs put up some resistance, making 31 runs before being bowled by Steve Taylor.

The innings finally came to an end with the seasiders 14 runs adrift in the 42nd over.

On Saturday, Skegness seconds hope to get back to winning ways in Division Two when they travel to Ropsley near Grantham.
