It was a very busy weekend for Mandy Brummitt in county competition with Bryn Foxon in the Mixed Pairs on Friday evening at Skegness.
The pair took on Martin Dolby and Sharon Bailey of Stamford IBC.
The visitors were slow to start and Mandy and Bryn led by 16 shots to nil after just five ends. Although Stamford got to grips with the green and mounted a challenge Mandy and Bryn responded to win the tie 28-19 and a place in the quarter finals at Spalding on March 23 and a match against Lincoln or Scunthorpe.
Back in action on Saturday morning, Mandy travelled to Lincoln with Alice Salmon for the quarter finals of the County Ladies’ Pairs.
Meeting Chelsea Tomlin and Diane Wilson of Boston, the Skegness duo never got to grips with the unfamiliar carpet and were beaten 22-14.
“We was robbed” was the cry from Alan Brumitt, Dave Briggs and Graham L Simpson after their Club Men’s Triples tie with Rob Rankin, Keith Findley and Mac McAlindon.
The teams were locked at 12-12 on the last end and lying two shots after excellent bowls from Brummitt. A deflected wood from Rankin secured the tie in a 13-12 win for Rankin, Findley, and McAlindon, who had played well to keep the scores tight throughout the match.
An extra end was needed to decide the Club Ladies’ Rinks semi-final, between Anne Bramley, Ann Ladums, Hessie Jackson and Brenda Manning, who played Joan Usher, Val Huggins, Dot Small and Lynne Rigby.
It was Usher’s rink who scored a vital two shots for a place in the final 16-14 after a very close contest.
Their opponents in the final will be Muriel Coulson, Arran Chantry, Gill Spicer and Gill Newman, who accounted for Alice Salmon, Jackie McAlindon, Brenda Rice and Jean Veall 14-6.
