Four star United beat Nettleham

Sills & Betteridge Lincolnshire League

Nettleham 0

Skegness United 4

AFTER success in the Challenge Cup last week, and a series of home fixtures, United were back on the road away at high-flying Nettleham for their latest league match.

United were certainly fired up for the encounter and this showed when McGuigan was unlucky to have his effort saved by the Nettleham goalkeeper in the opening minutes.

Crossley and O’Loughlin’s partnership is continuing to blossom as they linked together for the latter to force a great save from the Nettleham ‘keeper.

The deadlock was broken when Rayner-Mistry danced through the Nettleham defence to feed O’Loughlin, who rounded the keeper and placed the ball into the net to make it 1-0 to United. This fired United even more and they stepped up another gear with Rayner-Mistry continuing to cause havoc with the home defence.

Nettleham were playing some good football themselves and passing it well, but the United defence kept their attackers at bay.

The second half could not have started any brighter for United with player/manager Hallam linking with McGuigan to feed O’Loughlin, who again finished superbly for his and United’s second of the game.

The United midfield began to dominate, playing some fantastic football and keeping possession well. McGuigan should have made it three as he inexplicably headed over from one yard when it looked easier to score.

Within minutes he soon redeemed himself with a stunning strike from 20 yards out that left the Nettleham keeper stranded and United three to the good.

O’Loughlin capped off an excellent day with a solo effort that saw him turn and evade two challenges before shifting the ball onto his left foot and bending a stunning 25 yard effort into the top corner

Upon scoring the fourth, United had further chances, but it ended 4-0 to United which means they remain unbeaten at the top of the league.

Manager Mark Hallam said: ”We put in an exceptional team performance today against one of the strongest teams in the league which is very satisfying.

“We were breathtaking going forward at times and Ryan’s stunning hat-rick was a catalyst for our convincing victory.”

United’s next match is at Wainfleet Road against Sleaford Town Reserves this Saturday, September 29. Kick off is 3pm.

Skegness United - Martin, Hallam (Nicholls), Drysdale, Muirhead, Skinner, Chamberlain, Scutt, Rayner-Mistry (Howard), McGuigan, O’Loughlin (Stainton), Crossley. Man of the Match - Ryan O’Loughlin.
