AFTER a stop-start pre-season that has included the cancellation of a number of matches due to poor weather and under-strangth opponents it’s fair to say United have not enjoyed the best preparation for the new season.
However, the team are raring to go this Saturday as they welcome new boys Gainsborough Town to Wainfleet Road for a 3pm kick off for their curtain raiser.
After a tremendous debut season where they finished second in the league and won the Supplementary Cup, United have their work cut out to reach those heights again.
With that in mind the management team of Mark Hallam and assistant Jason Smith are very optimistic about what the new look United side can achieve this year.
Manager Mark Hallam said: “There is an exciting new youthful look to the first team squad this season, with the new additions of some of the best young players that Skegness has to offer – to last season’s experienced players.
“It was vitally important we retained the spine of last year’s team with players, such as new skipper Jordan Walden and last season’s Lincolnshire League top scorer Kurt Crossley showing their loyalty to the club despite excessive offers from our rivals.
“We have also looked to strengthen the side where possible.
“Among the new faces is former Grimsby Town and Brigg Town player Ryan O’Loughlin, who we were delighted to secure for the new season and he brings immense quality to an already talented squad and is expected to be an instant crowd favourite.
“Ryan had several offers from other clubs but he shares our ambition of bringing a higher level of football to this town which has been lacking for far too long. We just hope the people of Skegness share our ambition and get behind us again like they did last season as we averaged around 100 spectators a game at Wainfleet Road.”
Assistant Manager Jason Smith added: “Some of the young boys will have to mature quickly if we are to achieve the goals we have set ourselves this season, but there is no doubt the potential is there for another successful campaign.
“The support we had last year was incredible and we only hope they will continue to follow us as we try to go one better than last season.”
United are delighted to announce that home kit sponsor BSP Holdings, away kit sponsor Churchills Sports & Wine Bar, tracksuit sponsor New Era Gym and Club Polo shirt sponsor ALLCARS have renewed their sponsorship for the forthcoming season.
The United face four difficult games in August, as they bid to improve on their second place finish. After entertaining Gainsborough Town this Saturday at Wainfleet Road, they then travel away to Grimsby Borough Reserves on Wednesday 22, before returning to Wainfleet Road to take on Lincoln United Reserves on Saturday 25.
They then make the short journey to local rivals Town on Tuesday 28.
