U16s football: Alford Town 8, Nettleham 1
Following on from the previous week’s excellent Cup win at Ruston Sports, Alford Town comfortably dismissed the challenge of Nettleham in their Mid Lincs U16 League encounter.
Playing with a new confidence they were quickly out of the traps, going 3-0 up in 15 minutes. Luke Bailey popped up at the back post to clinically finish a fine diagonal ball from the left which split the Nettleham defence.
And he was instrumental in Alford’s second when his shot came back off a post, hit a defender and went in.
The home side’s man of the match, Leighton Jarratt, began his fine afternoon when he cleverly stole the ball from a defender and drove towards goal, finishing in style for Alford’s third.
Playing some very good passing football and showing great determination across the team, Alford were too hot for Nettleham to handle in the second-half.
Striker Leighton Jarratt finished the game with five goals in a scintillating display of finishing.
Callum Wadley added the final goal with another assured strike.
Nettleham kept going to their credit and did register a reply when Alford were leading 5-0, but in truth this only proved to be a consolation.
Playing with this intensity and style, Alford Town look to have struck a rich vein of form, which players, management and supporters hope continues.
