UNITED were again missing several first team regulars but 17-year-old Luke Rayner-Mistery made his debut.
Louth took the lead on 10 minutes after winning three corners in succession, the last of which was cleared as far as Paul Coulam who hit a stunning shot from 30 yards through a crowded goalmouth past Ben Pritchard.
This seemed to be the wake up call United needed and they were soon on level terms when Jack Wightwick picked up a ball on edge of the visitors area and drove his shot into the far corner of the net via a slight a deflection.
United went into the lead on 25 minutes when another excellent Hallam free kick was met by Kyle McGuigan who rose above the visitors’ defence and headed home at the far post.
United increased their lead after the ball was played into the Louth box and Kurt Crossley cleverly dispatched his shot home via the crossbar.
United increased their lead when Arron Scutt received a ball some 20 yards out, and with an angled drive beat Macallum into the top corner to make it 4-1.
On 55 minutes Louth were gifted a goal when Pritchard took too long to clear the ball, allowing Rocky Rawlings to charge it down and it ricocheted into the United net. As in the first half, United replied within minutes when a Scutt cross was knocked home from close range by Crossley for his 20th league goal of the season.
Within minutes United had six on the board. Wightwick crossed and Callum Hyland applied the finishing touch. On 65 minutes Sean Chamberlain was replaced with Luke Rayner-Mistry and straight away he was causing problems with his pace to the Louth left side.
The goal of the match was scored by young Jack Wightwick who picked the ball up just inside the visitors’ half and evaded two tackles before delicately lofting the ball over the oncoming keeper quite superbly.
When the final whistle blew the United had secured the three points needed to assure runners-up spot in their debut season.
