A classy finish from the in-form Grant Hughes proved to be the difference at the end of a physical encounter between two committed teams.
Hughes punished the visitors for a sloppy pass with ten minutes left and rounded the keeper to score from an acute angle.
The goal doubled the seasiders’ lead and, despite a late strike from United, was enough to secure the three points.
Town took the lead after 30 minutes when man-of-the-match Lucky Singh fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Mareham were stronger in the second half as they pushed for an equaliser, but Skegness skipper Damian Howland used all his experience to settle his young defenders, Bell, Hazard and Chapman.
Hughes doubled their lead in the 81st minute after a period of Mareham pressure.
Despite pulling a goal back in the dying seconds of the game, the visitors ran out of time in their bid for a share of the spoils.
On Saturday Skegness Town Reserves are at home to local rivals Spilsby Town (kick-off at 2pm).
