Skegness Town 4, Hykeham Town 1

SKEGNESS Town bagged a strong three-points on Saturday.

The Lilywhites took the lead in the 11th minute when Courtney Skeldon was gifted the opener.

The experienced visiting keeper Lee Sizer came out to meet a back pass, but only succeeded in chipping it up in the air for Skeldon, who gratefully lifted it back over Sizer and into the gaping net.

Two minutes later Daniel Reid rattled the crossbar with a header.

In the 15th minute the Lilywhites doubled their lead. A sharp-eyed linesman spotted a foul on the tricky Reid and Papworth stepped up to smash the resultant penalty past the Hykeham keeper.

Skegness Town’s defenders were caught out in the 20th minute but Michael Ellis’s lob went over.

At the other end Lonslow hit the cross bar following another great run.

Skegness increased their lead in the 30th minute when Reid finished off a good move.

It should have been four just after the break but, when Ben Davison’s header was pushed away by Sizer, Damian Howland skied the rebound over the bar from a yard out. The let off seemed to inspire the visitors and Ellis reduced arrears on the hour when he latched onto a poor back pass from Jake Akers and slotted past Elliott Clark.

A golden chance to restore the three-goal lead was squandered midway through the second half when Chris Nicholls clipped a free kick over a defensive wall and into the path of Davison.

As the game swung from end to end in the later stages another chance created by Danny Aston was wasted by the seasiders and Skeldon failed to convert a great cross from Lonslow.

In the last minute Lonslow showed his strength when he burst between two defenders, who were trying to bring him down and lobbed the advancing Sizer to make the final score 4-1.

Edgley went on to say that two more signings were on the cards this week to further strengthen the squad.

Skegness Town: Clark, Howland, Lonslow, Parish, Akers, Gowshall, Nicholls, Davison, Papworth, Skeldon, Reid, Aston, Verheul.

Hykeham Town: Sizer, Lewis, Wallis, Barnsley, Clay, M Newman, Mehta, Nelson, Ellis, Kelway, McGann.

On Saturday Skegness are away to Gainsborough Town (kick-off 3pm). Next Tuesday evening they travel to Jakemans Stadium to take on Boston United Reserves (kick-off 7.45pm).
