A DANIEL Reid hat-trick secured another three points for the Lilywhites when they hosted Cleethorpes Town Reserves in midweek.

The Skegness striker tormented the visitors all night long and could well have doubled his tally with a little more luck.

He opened the scoring in the third minute when he broke the Cleethorpes offside trap before skipping past goalkeeper Brad Beattie and rolling the ball into an empty net.

The rest of the first half was pretty even, although the home side will argue they had the better chances to add to their lead.

However, they had to wait until the third minute of the second half to extend their advantage. Skipper Damian Howland played the ball out of defence to the feet of Reid, who slipped his marker on the half way line and headed for goal.

As defenders tried to cut him off, the pacy Reid fired goalwards with a fierce drive, which Beattie couldn’t hold. The ball dropped over the keeper’s head and bounced over the line before he could recover the situation.

Reid completed his hat-trick ten minutes into the second half when Gareth Mason’s attempted clearance spun off his shin and hit a post. The rebound fell kindly to Reid, who nodded home from a yard out.

A frustrated Marc Sawyer was cautioned by the referee when he kicked the ball away a minute later.

Midway through the second half Reid should have scored a fourth, but he headed into the arms of Beattie when well-placed.

Cleethorpes continued to press and took advantage of the midfield space afforded to them when Ben Davison dropped into defence to replace the injured centre back Joby Gowshall.

They finally reduced arrears in the 80th minute when Callum Day steered the ball in at the far post.

There followed five minutes of pressure from the visitors, but they were unable to break down the home defence and Skegness finished the stronger.

It was an excellent all-round performance by the entire team and continued their unbeaten start to the season.
