SKEGNESS United joint manager Mark Hallam has hailed his players’ after they booked a spot in the final of the Supplementary Cup in only their first season.
United saw off Hykeham Town’s challenge in the semi-final thanks to goals from McCauley Parker and Andy Reeson.
Hallam said: “I’m delighted for everyone involved with the club that we have booked a place in a cup final in our inaugural season.
“The players were fantastic from start to finish and deserve all the credit for the desire they have shown.”
The final will be played at Lincoln United on May 12, where they face the challenge of either Boston United Reserves or local rivals Skegness Town.
After a relatively quiet opening period in which neither keeper had much to do, Skegness went close when Joby Gowshall headed just over the bar.
United took the lead on 23 minutes when a Sean Chamberlain ball down the right let Danny Stevens in behind the home defence and he played a ball across the goal mouth to McCauley Parker who knocked it home from five yards.
A Hyland volley went narrowly over the bar, and he also headed over a few minutes later as United looked to add to their tally.
Hykeham went close at the other end when they converted a corner. But Pritchard had the ball in his hand, and a free kick was instead awarded to United by referee Skelton.
United thought they’d scored their second of the day shortly into the second half when Crossley managed to knock the ball over the line only for the assistant to chalk it off for an infringement.
But Skegness did double their lead in the 55th minute when a ball from the right was collected by Andy Reeson around 25 yards from goal and his left foot shot into the top corner gave keeper Sizer no chance.
A Crossley overhead kick was cleared off the line as United looked for more.
The only time any danger came United’s way was when a Hykeham ball into the box bounced around before the visitors’ defence cleared.
Team - Pritchard (Smith), Stevens (Callaby), Drysdale, M. Chamberlain, Gowshall, Hyland, Reeson, S. Chamberlain, Thorpe, Parker, Crossley; man of the match - McCauley Parker.
