Skegness Town 0

Ruston Sports 0

SKEGNESS Town entertained Ruston Sports in the first league game at Burgh Road, and it was a fairly even and often tetchy encounter, with goalscoring chances rare at either end.

The first half was noteable for a rash challenge on town Keeper Michael Emery, who was only able to continue after lengthy treatment, and Josh Whittam firing a half chance just over the bar.

Skegness had the upper hand in the second half but were finding it difficult to create any clear cut chances against a stubborn and resolute defence.

Lee Orrey flashed a shot just wide of the post, and thought he’d broken the deadlock when, after rounding the keeper, saw his close range shot cleared off the line by a Ruston full back.

Jamie Sleight and Ashley Rasmusson replaced Sam Sleight and Josh Whittam for the last 15 minutes, but Skegness couldn’t find a way through Ruston’s rearguard and both sides had to settle for a point each.

On Saturday, August 27, Skegness Town are at home to Nettleham, with a 3pm kick-off; and on Tuesday, August 30, Boston Utd Reserves will be the visitors to Burgh Road with a 6.30pm kick-off.
