Goalkeepers shine in close run match

WAINFLEET United made the lengthy journey to play Holbeach Bank in division one of the Boston and District League, only to go down by the narrow margin of 3-2.

Wainfleet made a good start and took the lead with a well-taken goal from Bob Jackson.

However, Holbeach Bank hit back, and equalised at 1-1 before half time. Wainfleet keeper Sam Caten made several superb saves in this half.

Wainfleet rallied strongly and played much better in the second half, and were rewarded when Dan Starkey scored a superb goal to put them 2-1 up.

Holbeach fought back and scored an equaliser, before scoring what proved to be the winning goal at 3-2, with 15 minutes remaining. Holbeach had to thank their goalkeeper, who made a series of fantastic saves.

Wainfleet’s man of the match was goalkeeper Sam Caten.
