Lincolnshire FA Junior Cup - Round Four

New signing Jake Gibson struck twice to book Skegness Town a place in the quarter-finals of the county cup following a 2-1 extra time win at College Wanderers.

But an excellent display by teenaged goalkeeper Josh Smith was also key to this fourth round success against the previously unbeaten Scunthorpe League leaders.

Smith pulled off a series of outstanding saves to keep tough opponents Wanderers at bay.

It was a hard fought battle between two good sides, neither of whom was prepared to allow the other to settle on the ball.

After a goalless first half, Gibson gave the Lilywhites the lead, but Ricketts equalised for the home team with just four minutes left.

Both sides pushed for a winner during the extra time period and both had a goal disallowed before Gibson notched the all-important second goal.

The Wanderers battled for another equaliser but heroics from Smith saw the visitors home.

Town were given another boost with John Courtney making a welcome return to the action during the second half of extra time. Courtney suffered a broken leg towards the end of last season during the league encounter against Ruston Sports.

Skegness Town: Josh Smith, Aaron Shelley, Jamie Epton, Liam Papworth, Jack Cotton, Liam Parker, Daniel Cobb, Ben Davison, Nathan Adams, Jake Gibson, McCauley Parker, John Courtney, Michael Marinov.

On Saturday Skegness return to league action when they travel to Lincoln-based Ruston Sports (kick-off at 2pm).
