Spilsby secured their place in the semi-final of the Reserve Cup with a hard fought victory in a game that had some over-zealous officiating and saw five yellow cards.
The first half was a very entertaining 45 minutes, with Spilsby leading 3-2 thanks to a brace of goals from Adam Dales, including a penalty after Jordan Turner was brought down, and a superb 25-yard free kick into the top corner of the net.
The second half was dominated by Spilsby with Pete Sampson and Michael Twigge completely secure at the back. Sonny Cragg and the young Ricky Herberts were making some crunching tackles in midfield and Dales and Turner were a constant threat to the Billinghay defence.
The only surprise was that Spilsby didn’t add any further goals.
So after cup success in 2012 Spilsby are already nearing another cup final this season with new manager Mark Ingram.
