Another win for Skegness

Skegness FC 3

CJB Humberton 1

SKEGNESS FC welcomed Lincs League team CJB in the Cusworth Cup.

Skegness knew this would be one of their toughest tests they have had to face so far in their first season.

The young team gave a performances filled of confidence, determination and a great togetherness to ensure another victory in this amazing season.

With games coming thick and fast Manager Edgley decided to rest Lonslow, Wager, Liles, Critchlow, Courtney and Chapplehow for Monday night’s cup final.

Skegness started brightly with Fairburn crossing for Reed but his shot was well saved.

The next chance fell to Hardy, after Reed crossed from the left he slid in to just put the ball wide.

The first goal of the game came against the run of play when a free kick from CJB was flicked on into the top corner giving Soloman no chance.

Skegness looked to hit straight back, when Fairburn fired wide before Hardy missed the best chance by lobbing the ball just over the bar.

The second half continued like the first with Skegness dominating the play and with Minor, Akers, Muirhead and Bee at the back CJB did not look like extending their lead.

Skegness’s first goal came from a corner. With the ball only half cleared Akers smashed home a volley to level the game.

Skegness were now pushing for a second and after Miller’s through ball to leading goal scorer Reed, he slotted it home under the CJB keeper to give Skegness a deserved lead.

Skegness were now toying with CJB playing some great football and with five minutes left Hardy finally got the goal his hard work had deserved by sidestepping one challenge before smashing the ball home.

Skegness FC will now play A&G Autos in the quarter finals.

Manager Edgley said it was another great result and hopefully after beating another Lincs League team his side would start to receive the recognition they deserved. He said: “It also shows the strength in my squad to have rested the players we have. The lads that played tonight were fantastic.”

Skegness: J Soloman, R Muirhead, K Minor (captain), J Akers, V Bee, M English, K Miller, J Fairburn, J Lyal M Hardy, D Ried (M Richardson).
