THERE’S no wonder professional clubs have been running their eye over some of the Skegness area’s young football talent.
Not only did East Coast Juniors’ Under 9s win the league and cup double, but they were too hot to handle when they came up against sides from Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester.
Winning is certainly a habit enjoyed by The Vikings, who were successful in 21 of their 22 league games and added the U9 Onyx Cup to the Butlins tournament they won against the city sides prior to their last Mid Lincs Youth League campaign.
Manager Jeff Potts and his assistant Dave Hotchen are already preparing for next season and it looks likely that they’ll have the same bunch of lads to choose from when they compete at Under 10 level.
Despite interest from professional clubs in some of the squad, the players are sticking together for the 2012/13 season, looking to make it four championship titles in a row from their Richmond Drive base.
Potts was understandably proud of his players. “We not only won the league, but we won it with a record not bettered by any other team in any other A league,” he said.
Striker Declan Johnson also picked up the trophy for most goals in the league (39).
The Manager’s Player of the Year trophy went to Charlie Matthews and Players’ Player was won by Dominic Burton.
The team is sponsored by Jenny Rutter and Castaway Caravan Park, with further support from Len Chapman Builders.
