Six-shooter Ray Jordan helped Skegness to their first win of the season in a low-scoring match at Richmond Drive on Saturday.

The West Indian all-rounder, who had earlier top scored for the seasiders with a quickfire 41, then grabbed six wickets to skittle out Market Deeping.

After being put into bat, things were looking bleak for the home side when they were 71 for 7, but they were given hope by the eighth wicket partnership of 63 between Jordan and Umar Farooq.

Farooq was left stranded on 30 after helping Skegness to their second batting point.

The meagre total of 154 left Skegness with a lot of work to do if they were going to break their duck for the season.

But up stepped Jordan.

He had Alex Wheatley caught by Norman Brackley with the score on 14 and when fellow opener Chris Jones followed Wheatley back to the pavilion without adding to the total the Skegness tails were up.

Deeping stuttered to 35 for four before Jamie Morgan and skipper Dave Gillett steadied the ship with a partnership of 46.

Morgan’s 43 from 41 balls included seven fours and at 119 for five the finish line was in sight for the visitors.

But those 35 runs for victory looked a long way off when Jordan had Gillett caught behind by Sean Chamberlain.

With plenty of overs left David Sergeant dug in, but he ran out of partners and Deeping were all out, 18 runs short in the 38th over.

On Saturday Skegness make the short journey to East Lindsey rivals Louth for a 12 noon start.
