Three-hundred took part in Skegness bowling contest

BOWLS enthusiasts from across the country braved the elements last week as East Lindsey District Council held its second annual tournament in Skegness.

From July 1 to July 6 the tournament, which took place at Skegness North Greens on North Parade, saw just under 300 players from around the country come together to take part in this highly anticipated tournament.

The competition was broken down into separate categories which covered mixed pairs, men’s singles, ladies singles, ladies pairs and men’s pairs.

There were a mixture of local players taking part along with competitors from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Cambridgeshire.

The tournament was followed by a presentation at 3pm which saw winners and runners up presented awards by the Deputy Mayor of Skegness Councillor Jim Carpenter and Deputy Mayoress Mrs Cullen.

Results - Ladies Pairs - winners, Josie Tyers and Jane Watson; runners-up, Ros Petney and Silvia Colquitt; Mixed Pairs - winners, Mr and Mrs Walker; runners-up, Michael Thompson and Maria Clarke; Gents Pairs - winners, Raymond Maskell and David Tyers; runners-up, Alan Shipley and Ken Wright; Ladies Singles - winner, Tracy Philpott; runner-up - Irene Wright; Gents Singles - winner, John Jordan; runner-up, Peter Duke.
