Almost 500 players take part in annual bowls tournament

BOWLS enthusiasts from across the country made their way to a bright and sunny Skegness last week as East Lindsey District Council held its third annual bowls tournament.

From September 2 to September 7 the tournament, which took place at Skegness North Greens on North Parade, saw just under 500 players from around the country come together to take part in this highly anticipated tournament.

The competition was broken down into separate categories which covered open singles, open pairs and open rinks of three.

There were a mixture of local players taking part along with competitors from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Cambridgeshire.

The tournament, which was sponsored by Sid Dennis & Sons ltd, The Bowls Shop and Skegness East Coast and Wolds Hospitality Association, was followed by a presentation at 3pm which saw winners and runners up presented awards by the Mayor of Skegness Councillor Mark Anderson and the Chairman of SECWHA, George Facey.

Results - Open Singles - Winner, Mr Bannister, Helpringham Sleadford; Runner Up, Mr Maskell, Bilsthorpe; Open Pairs - Winners, Mr Copeland, Bilsthorpe, and Mr Stevens, Bilsthorpe; Runners Up, Mrs Adams, Hucknall, and Mr Pearce, Nottingham; Open Rinks of Three - Winners, Mr Bannister, Helpringham Sleadford, Mr Hudson, Billinghay, and Mr White, Boston; Runners Up, Mr Tabreham, Nottingham, Mr Lilley, Hucknall, and Mr Beaumont, Wollaton, Nottingham.
