Runners' countywide appeal

An incredible weekend of running in Lincolnshire saw more than 40 members from Skegness & District Running Club take part in the five major running events, with many records broken and personal best times achieved.

Beautiful weather greeted 15 members in Lincoln for the annual 10k road race with everyone reporting a better-than-expected time.

Matt West led the club home with a great time of 38-57, just ahead of Dan Barker in 40-56, who was running his last event before moving to Australia.

Mel Standbrook was first back for the ladies in another stunning time of 52-17.

Grandparents Barry and Janet Norton proved you are never too old to runby coming home in 1:06-13 and 1:09-05 respectively.

Over in Spalding at the Tulip 10k, club runner Lorraine Clarke had an excellent run coming home in 1:08-45, knocking six minutes off her previous best time.

In Grantham at the XCountry 10k at Belton House, Tony Tomlin finished the muddy challenging course in 1:03-52 .

Coming back from injury, Tony was very pleased with the time.

The Boston Marathon and Half Marathon was supported by more than 30 club runners.

It was a very successful first running of the race after a break of 30 years.

Mark Sands was second in the Half Marathon in 1:15-55, a fabulous result and only three minutes behind the winner.

For the ladies Helen Blair was second with a time of 1:35-30 just ahead of Abigail Young, who took the ladies’ third place slot in 1:40-53.

In the full marathon, Andy Shelton was 14th in 3:14-16, just ahead of Martin Tebbs, who was 21st in 3:19-22.

The relay teams finished fourth and sixth.

Seven Skegness and District Running Club members travelled to Bourne to run the 10k in the woods on a beautiful sunny Lincolnshire day last weekend.

And the club’s youngest member competed in his first official event in the club vest.

Fifteen-year-old Logan Graves has been a regular at the popular Saturday morning Parkrun in Boston, but at Bourne he was the 19the male home in a time of 44 mins 22 secs. Also taking part at Bourne was Andy Shelton, the 17th male home in 43 mins 29 secs, Mark Lyon, who was 25th male, and Peter Mittertreiner, 78th male.

For the ladies, Sarah Coupland had an excellent run, coming home in 59 mins 41 secs as the 34th lady.

Helena Shelton ran with Totty the dog, clocking 1 hr 9 mins 23 secs.
