Julie Hawkesford will be raising funds for the Butterfly Hospice when she runs this year's London Marathon.

A keen runner from Burgh le Marsh hopes to raise £500 for a much loved local palliative care facility when she takes part in this year’s London Marathon.

Skegness Coasters’ Julie Hawkesford was inspired to support the Butterfly Hospice after visiting the end-of-life care facility in Boston.

She said: “I was impressed by the beauty and serenity of the place and dedication of the staff there.

“It will offer a secure, friendly environment for people with life limiting illnesses to spend their last days in comfort with medically trained staff and support teams available.

“They still have a long way to go and will require constant fundraising efforts to achieve their goals but the local public support for the charity is outstanding.

“Jane Parson, who I spoke to there, said that a great proportion of funds raised are from Skegness - this is a great accolade for our town.”

Five Coasters members are taking part in this year’s event, and together they have braved snow and ice to prepare for the big day on April 21.

“My fellow Coasters have been amazing and I am getting so much support with my marathon training and morale boosting from them,” Julie said.

The Digby’s Pet and Aquatics employee says running has become an important part of her life since she joined Coasters in 2011 to get fit and is proudly looking forward to representing her club at the world’s largest marathon.

Collection boxes to sponsor Julie are available at Digby’s, New Era Gym, P&R Decorating Centre, Wingnuts Cafe, Nicola’s Nursery World, and Wolfies in Skegness and Mr and Mrs Hair Salon in Chapel St Leonards.

If you would like to host a collection box at your business email her at juliet161@sky.com.

“I would like thank the business and individuals that have supported me so far and I look forward to completing the maraton with pride and no doubt blisters and black toenails!” Julie added.
