Sixty students from the John Spendluffe Technology College in Alford enjoyed an epic Heineken Cup encounter on Sunday, December 8 when Leicester Tigers took on the French side Montpellier at Welford Road.

The students, who went on the trip organised by the PE department, also had the honour of forming the guard of honour as the players ran out and being the giant shirt shakers on the middle of the pitch.

This corresponded with a poignant moment as the group stood for a minute’s silence to honour Nelson Mandela.

“All students from year 7 to 11 had a wonderful experience and looked very smart in their Tigers shirts. The game itself was a classic with Tigers coming out as 41-32 winners,” said a spokesperson.

“Well done to all of the students, who had the experience of a lifetime!”
