Alford Ladies edge out their county rivals

ALFORD Ladies travelled to Deeping with a side depleted of midfielders.

Alford started brightly from the off and pushed forward on the Bourne goal, however the home team quashed chance after chance and shot after shot.

After getting a measure of the defence and keeper, Alford’s pairing of Chloe Bolland and Kelly Tuplin manoeuvered through the field and with only the keeper to beat, Tuplin pushed the ball round and into the back of the net for Alford to take a deserved lead.

Alford dealt with a constant barrage of short corners awarded to the home team, however this gave Bourne ample opportunity to practice their array of set pieces until they found one that worked, with a flick passing the flailing sticks of the advancing defenders to level the score at one a piece.

Undaunted Alford once again pushed forward and Rachel Hickson quickly took a free hit to captain Bolland whose shot goalwards was picked up off the back line by Vicky Allen who forced the ball over the goal line at an almost impossible angle for Alford to go in at half time 2-1 up.

Alford still had their chances to increase their lead, but couldn’t quite find the final touch which would have given the defensive team some breathing space.
