Monday - YOUNG Skegness windsurfer Robert York tackled the top three sailors in the country in tough winds at Covenham.

Robert, 12, competed as part of the north team 15 and came out in an impressive second place after a tough day where the surfers kept swapping the lead position.

The winner was Emma Legbourne, then Robert, followed by Abigail Wilson who pipped national champion Robert Griffith to the third.

Later Robert enjoyed more success at the UKWA Derwent competition where he consolidated his current second position overall in the UKWA Inland Series.

The weekend at Derwent Reservoir saw some great sailing in testing conditions as the wind ranged from very light to very strong.

The top sailors were competing in all classes, but Robert's weekend got off to a disappointing start.

On Saturday he finished with a fourth overall position, but on Sunday he was a different boy.

He took first place in the first race, and then a third and a second place which brought him back into the game.

The overall first place was decided but in the last race it was between him and his old rival Robert Griffiths to battle it out for second place.

Both sailors sailed perfect races, but on this occasion Griffiths got the better by winning the final race with Robert just a board length behind in second.
