Friday - ON Thursday Alford Wheelers held their 10 mile time trial championships on the Sutton Road.

Twenty-seven riders faced time keeper Paul Griffiths in mild but blustery conditions. The closely contested racing threw up some surprise results.

The first race went to Russell Linton, in a time of 23m 55s, with junior Finnian Haynes runner-up in 24m 2s, closely followed by Brian Sargent in third with 24m 7s.

The surprise ride of the night was the fourth place of John Potter. His fourth place was a massive personal best on this course, giving him a runaway lead in the handicap section.

In the veteran's age related standard a plus of 6m 34s gained him the Credit Agricole Trophy.

Other top placings were: 5 John Elliott 24m 16s and second veteran on standard plus 6m 29s; 6 Glenn Palmer 25m 31s; 7 Brendon Thomas 26m 7s; equal eighth Maurice Nicoll and Richard Mumby 26m 28s; 10 Wayne Kew 27m 33s; 11 Carl Wilkinson 28m 22s; 12 Richard Tagg 28m 33s.
In the schoolboys section: 1 Ryan Thomas 32m 28; 2 Tyler Wright 33m 44s; 3 Kieran Dunnington 38m 28s
