Wainfleet clinch another win, this time over Skegness

Wednesday - THIS was a thorough workmanlike victory for Wainfleet United over Skegness Town Reserves, at the Burgh Road ground on Saturday.

Wainfleet keeper Dan Simpson was called into action early on and dealt safely with his handling from corners and crosses.


The Wainfleet back four of Andy Carter, Tom Bone, Andy Campbell especially, and Duncan Whiley soaked up all that Skegness could throw at them.


The midfield quartet of Royston Wilkinson, Wes Sutton, Phil Simpson and Shaun Drury started to counter-attack at every opportunity, but the Skegness keeper Daniel Kay was safe in all his handling.


In the second half, Wainfleet twice went close through Lee Johnson and Royston Wilkinson.


Wes Sutton fired just too high from a free kick.


When Skegness retaliated, Wainfleet keeper Dan Simpson saved superbly from Josh Whittam.


Wainfleet went ahead when Matt Broome crossed and Phil Simpson set up Lee Johnson to score with a terrific drive.


Shortly after, Wainfleet went two up when Lee Johnson scored direct from a corner.


Wainfleet sent on substitutes Jack Marshall and Stan Anthony.


Wainfleet went three up when Royston Wilkinson set up Shaun Drury to score.


The Skegness manager John Barker took over running the line in the second half.


The Wainfleet manager John Elsworth, a substitute, went on for the remaining four minutes.


Man of the match for Wainfleet was Andy Campbell.
