Tuesday, 9.28am - HAVING set their opponents a target of 251 to win, Skegness fell one wicket short of gaining maximum points in their first home game of the season.
Premier Division
Skegness 250 for 6
Appleby Frodingham 2nds 180 for 9
(Skegness won by 70 runs)
The seasiders' five runs per over average was largely due to the 140-run partnership between Paul Butler (105) and his skipper Wade McCall (75), whose later efforts with the ball grabbed seven of the visitors' wickets.
But they had to settle for 19 of the 20 points up for grabs when frustrated by the last ditch 18-run partnership between Scunthorpe wicket keeper Barker and tenth man Callaghan.
It all began so well for Frodingham against last season's runners-up.
Aussie wicket keeper batsman Tim Pashen was bowled by Powell with the first ball he faced in competitive English cricket.
And when fellow opener Gary Saddington was caught by Theakstone off Callaghan, the seasiders were rocking on three for 2.
But, just as they did at Alkborough last season, Butler and McCall responded with a match winning partnership to cancel out the promising start.
Callaghan was taken out of the attack having conceded 30 runs in his first five overs, but Day faired little better, going for 33 off his three overs.
Frodingham just had no answer to the Skegness pair, who took the total to 143 for three before McCall was caught off Bramley's bowling.
There was a short appearance at the wicket by Tony Santini, before normal service was resumed. Butler stepped on the accelerator and put on 74 with young Jamie Epton, who finished with an unbeaten 39.
The Butler and McCall show started again after tea with Butler dismissing openers Theakstone and Taylor and then bowling Theakstone's replacement Bramley.
McCall started eating his way through the middle order, but both were thwarted by Simon Taylor, who threatened McCall's second highest score of the day before being caught by Chamberlain off the skipper's bowling for 74.
Skegness continued to plug away, but they ran out of overs as Barker dug in.
