Wednesday - CHESS whizzes at Skegness Junior School were the highest placed Lincolnshire team in a national chess contest.
Eleven youngsters from Skegness took part in the contest in Wales against pupils from schools all over the country.
They played in two teams, one in the main contest and one in the Plate contest. They won a silver in the main competition and were the highest placed Lincolnshire team.
The other team won fifth position, narrowly missing out on fourth.
This was the culmination of an impressive season for the school players, six of which have regularly represented the school at a county level.
The players were: first team, Shaun Betts, captain, Jermaine Cox, Luke Jones, Corey Cunliffe and Callum Wadley; second team, Joshua Hall, captain, Joshua Cox, Jordan Roberts, Gina Thompson and Connell McGrorey. Ellie Cunliffe was a reserve and won half of her games in a reserve team.
The teams were supported by Amicus, Howden's Joinery and the Grimsby Institute which donated printed polo shirts.
