Mid Lincs League Under 13s, Greenbank 0 Alford Town 5: A SECOND-half hat-trick in the space of 15 minutes from Jordan Checkett finally put paid to the stubborn resistance of Lincoln side Greenbank and set the tone for a flurry of late goals.
Indeed the scoreline remained deadlocked at 0-0 until that final quarter of an hour. Despite creating a number of gilt-edged chances in the first half, Alford could not make their superiority pay.
Despite a much improved performance in the second period it looked as if the match was destined to finish goalless. That is until Checkett stepped up.
All three of his goals were similar in construction and execution. Playing off the shoulder of the last defender Checkett had the pace to pick up neat through balls from the Alford midfield and hone in on the Greenbank goal. On all three occasions he finished clinically and coolly.
Defender Jim Farnell scored his first goal for Alford between man of the match Checkett's second and third goal. He picked up a loose ball in the Greenbank box following a corner and fired it home. The last goal was an excellent solo effort from Kain Marshall who collected the ball inside the opposition half and drove in from the left rounding a number of desperate tackles before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
