Thursday, noon: WILLOUGHBY rider Peter Hickman was unlucky to crash twice in the same race on Sunday in the rescheduled round of the Metzeler National Superstock championship at Brands Hatch.
Because Hicky was racing in Europe in April when the grids were set he didn't have a qualifying time and was placed at the back of the grid for the start of Sunday's 15-lap affair.
As the race got underway Hicky made up places and by the time they rounded Paddock hill he was running midfield.
But as they approached Druids a rider ahead had a moment causing the following pack to brake hard.
Hicky hit the brakes but was unfortunate to hit Christian Elkin from behind, taking the two of them into the gravel.
The red flag was waved to bring the race to a halt and hurried repairs were made to Hicky's bike in pit lane before the restart.
At the restart Hicky again got a good start and was up to 14th place within the space of three laps.
But as he approached Hawthorne Bend on lap seven he went for the brakes and there was nothing there.
Travelling at around 150mph Hicky knew it was going to be a big crash so he laid the bike down as quickly as he could, unfortunately taking Elkin with him once again.
Neither rider was injured in the crash but both bikes suffered substantial damage and it will be a race against time for Hicky to get The Ultimate Racing Yamaha R1 prepared for the next round at Donington Park on May 26.
